National Safety Council produced this wonderful education site, “The ABCs of Secondhand Smoke.” There are 9 sections, available in English and Spanish versions; information for daycare providers, for parents, for children, and storybooks/activity sheets. Here too are four American Cancer Society booklets for kids available in PDF format.

Canada’s Center for Addiction and Mental Health created this 4th grade lesson about the effects of first and second-hand smoke. This link takes you to just one section of Educating Students about Drug Use and Mental Health. I like this lesson because it is straightforward and engages students in actively learning.

Canadian Cancer Society gets to the point with facts about children and second-hand smoke. There’s nothing glamorous or playful to this site. The facts stand on their own; second-hand smoke makes kids sick and can kill them; even the unborn.
