Cardboard Box Hot Wheels Race Track

Here’s a simple race track that will allow your kids to race Hot Wheels cars down an incline.

Stuff you’ll need:

  • A large cardboard box
  • Extra cardboard sheets for an extension to the track
  • Duct tape
  • Utility knife (and an adult to help cuts)
  • Ruler
  • Hot glue (adult on hand for this too)

Directions:

  1. Have an adult cut out the top and one side of your box.
  2. Measure the width of the opening and cut a piece of card that when laid on a slope from the ground to the top of one side of box, extends at the top by four inches. This will become the track.
  3. Make 3 lane dividers by cutting card to the length of the track and about 2 inches high. Measuring 4 inches from the top, cut a slit into each divider.
  4. Measure the width of the track into 4 equal parts.
  5. Standing the card on its edge, hot glue these in place on the track.
  6. The release mechanism will be a piece of card wider than the entire track that will slot into the divider slits. Covering it with duct tape will make it sturdier.
  7. Place two large sheets of card, end to end with one end underneath the base of the track. Tape these underneath with duct tape so that they do not come apart.
  8. Place your Hot Wheels against the release and let the races begin!
