Cinco de May is a fun-filled holiday that celebrates an important day in Mexico’s history. On May 5, 1862, at the Battle of Puebla, a smaller Mexican army bravely defeated a much larger French army to defend Mexico’s independence from foreign control. People celebrate with colorful papel picado banners, traditional dishes, lively mariachi music, and piñatas stuffed with candy and toys, while learning about Mexican culture. This issue invites students everywhere to join the fiesta and learn the traditions and history that make this lively holiday a treat for all. ¡Vamos a celebrar!
