Learning the traditions and observances of other cultures contributes to compassionate understanding and respect for the diversity in our world. This issue highlights the practices during Hanukkah—a festival of lights for those of the Jewish faith. Youngsters will learn about the number of days observed, the function of the menorah with its special shamash candle and meaning of the dreidel game recalling and explaining events that occurred over two thousand years ago.
