Hera and Juno

Jump on board the Kid Scoop time machine and travel back to ancient times to meet two powerful goddesses: Hera and Juno. Although they were revered and honored by two very different kingdoms, these mighty mythical women had much in common. The Greek and Roman empires were neighboring lands that bordered the vast Mediterranean Sea and information traveled from land to land through sailors and traders. Their gods and goddesses were similar but not the same. This issue directs young scholars to compare and contrast Hera and Juno using a Venn Diagram. Students will read, see, and learn where the goddesses’ traits overlapped and where they were unique. Finally, students will be invited to use information from the newspaper to create their own Venn Diagram, a powerful analytical device for future learning.

In this issue young readers will:

  • read about mythical goddesses
  • use a Venn Diagram to compare similarities and differences
  • understand that fables teach a lesson or moral
  • analyze the moral of a famous fable
  • write and share a descriptive poem about the sun
  • creatively color two goddesses
