Living in Space

← Continue shopping

Thirty-five years ago, the United States developed an idea to create a space station that would be managed by scientists and astronauts from different countries around the world. Seventeen countries joined the USA, and together they constructed the International Space Station—a place where scientists can conduct experiments in zero gravity. The design for the Space Station included features that could generate electricity independently, as well as quarters for the crew to work, sleep and relax. Because the materials to build the International Space Station were so heavy, it had to be built section by section entirely in space! Discover more details about this unique floating laboratory, and what it has meant for international relationships among nations on Earth. Your budding scientist or astronaut could one day be part of the crew! Strap on your imaginary gravity shoes to step aboard this orbiting wonder, and learn the who, what, when, where, and why of the International Space Station!

In this issue future space travelers will:

  • Read informational text about the International Space Station
