Dr. Martin Luther King left citizens of the United States a legacy of leadership, hope, strength, and vision. A special day in January is set aside to honor his contributions to social justice and equal rights. But influential people realized that one day in January is not enough to recognize a man who made lasting contributions to our country! Dr. King will now be honored each and every day with the installation of a new monument for all visitors to see located in the Great Mall in our nation’s capital. Every American should have the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. and discover the city where our nation’s government resides and famous Americans are honored. Someday you may make the trip yourself! Until then, this issue will take you on a brief tour of the capital’s most famous sights and sites—including the newest monument honoring Dr. Martin Luther King!
