Reading about current events helps students understand the world in which they live. Disasters such as oil spills or earthquakes also help young readers identify ways in which communities help each other out. In this issue students will read about an oil spill, its impact on the environment and how people respond to an emergency to protect the environment—including what children can do to make a difference.
