Point of View

Upside, downside, inside out! Things that surround us look very different from different angles or perspectives! Your personal “point of view” depends on where you are located to an object—above it, below to, or right next to it! This issue takes young observers into the sky with a flock of friendly birds to soar above Kid Scoop City. Using careful observation, visual clues, and creative thinking will you be able to match each side view of a building to its view from above? It’s harder than you think! Just when you’ve mastered perspective from above, you’ll shift to the opposite point of view to look at objects from below. This navigating through Kid Scoop City teaches important lessons about looking at issues from different sides, a life skill that helps in debating issues, forming opinions, negotiating tricky solutions, and compromising terms. Let’s see if you see the same thing from your point of view!

In this issue students will:

  • read informational text about perspective and point of view
  • use visual clues and spatial thinking to identify buildings and objects
  • visit Upside Down Town
  • write an opinion piece in response to a letter to the editor
  • write descriptively about your home environment—from your perspective
  • use a precise budget to purchase exactly five items
