Porcupines

← Continue shopping

A porcupine could be called a “poke-you-pine” because this furry fellow pokes back! Covered with sharp pointy quills, this normally peaceful creature will raise its quills for protection if provoked. If you’re unlucky enough to be touched by a quill, you could easily become “hooked” on this frisky mammal. Discover where porcupines live, what they eat, and how they survive in the wild. Stick around and you’ll get stuck on porcupines, too!

In this issue students will:

  • read informational text about porcupines
  • learn structures, features, and adaptations that aid in survival
  • use context clues to select vocabulary
  • calculate sums to differentiate between fact and opinion
  • follow verbal clues to draw a porcupine
  • locate facts and opinions in today’s newspaper
  • write creatively about your favorite signs of spring
  • create a porcupine poem with descriptive words found in the news
