Thanksgiving Day—or any gathering of relatives—is a perfect opportunity to chronicle family history. Aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins will be thankful for your interest in their past and will delight in relaying anecdotes for future generations. Gathering information through interviewing exposes kids to investigative reporting by using who, what, when, where, and why questioning strategies. Taking notes of responses builds language arts skills in a real-world context. Stories will be showcased in a homemade newspaper edited by your budding journalist with family members as headliners. “Extra! Extra! Read all about it!”
