Hoping to get the latest video game, a new pair of skates, or that trendy new yo-yo you just can’t live without? Odds are you CAN live without them! While these may be items you may want, they’re not things you need to survive! “Wants” make up a long list of things we’d like to have, while “needs” are things we must have in order to exist—like healthy food, a safe place to live, clean water, or clothes to protect our bodies. In order to s-t-r-e-t-c-h dollars, families must make sure “needs” are taken care of before “wants.” Learning the difference between needs and wants is a basic lesson in economy—and life!
