The U.S.A. is almost 250 years old, but women have only had the right to vote for the past 100 years. Why were men only allowed to vote, and how did the change to add women voters come about? The courageous women and men, who believed all people should elect our nation’s leaders, never gave up! Susan B. Anthony, a strong American leading the effort, gathered support to lobby for change. But change did not come quickly. Almost 70 years passed from the time she started working before an amendment was finally added to the Constitution that guaranteed women the right to cast a ballot. Our nation’s quest to become a “more perfect union” continues to evolve as new challenges arise. To honor the efforts of Susan B. Anthony and her colleagues, make sure your parents, relatives, and friends who CAN vote, DO vote in all elections!
