Unboil an Egg

Egg_spiral_egg_cupWhy would you want to unboil an egg? Well, it turns out that research done by scientists at UC Irvine and Flinders University in Australia shows that by unboiling egg whites, you can recycle and reuse the proteins within the egg. The possibilities for using those proteins could be especially helpful in cancer treatments.

Currently, the process of extracting proteins is both time consuming, often a week, and expensive. The researchers new process first adds a chemical that turns the solid to a liquid. Then a high powered, vortex-fluid spinning machine forces the proteins to untangle. The spin took five minutes.

UC Irvine has filed for a patent on the process.
