Kid Scoop Chosen for Publication in India

by Ellen Creane

“We were looking at a fun way to educate the children because of our own news-curious four-year-old. I came across Kid Scoop. I loved the way Kid Scoop presented each theme-based page—visually it is awesome and the content is very rich and engaging. Also, many difficult topics are explained in a simple way with examples. Kid Scoop is perfect in meeting those needs.”

This is how a young couple in Mumbai, India, Aneesh Laiwala and his wife Bharti describe their decision to include Kid Scoop pages in their start-up magazine, Junior Lens, for children ages six to 14-years-old.

“During our journey as parents, it was often a challenge to share news with our curious four-year-old. Being an early reader, he would peer over our shoulders and try to make sense of the newspaper that both of us read compulsively,” Aneesh Bharti explained. They have already written and published eight editions “fortnightly”—the Global edition began with the sixth issue.

Kid Scoop is an integral part of the magazine. Brevity and relevance of content along with the use of infographics will enable the child to ease into and eventually cultivate the habit of reading,” Bharti said. The magazine aims to increase knowledge in a fun way and expose young news readers to a holistic view of what is happening across countries. She writes the news articles and edits the content. Additionally, a teacher in the United States is contributing a “Budding Journalist Corner” where children contribute news stories.

The partnership between Junior Lens and Kid Scoop has been an instant success. “I love the passion with which Vicki Whiting (founder and editor of Kid Scoop) works,” Aneesh said.

Vicki Whiting agrees. “Newspapers use Kid Scoop for the same reasons here as their magazine. Our Kid Scoop partnerships with more than 300 newspapers bring educationally-sound reading activities that connect children with all parts of the newspaper. Kid Scoop believes children are born curious. From their earliest days, sensory exploration brings delight and wonder. New discoveries expand their minds. When they unlock the joy of reading, their world widens further. Magic happens. Access to real and imagined stories opens new vistas. As they experience what it means to be part of a large and diverse community, children are transformed.”
