Go on a classroom treasure hunt through the newspaper. Use the power of imagination to create an interactive activity to liven up learning!
Dangers Ahead!
Let your students come up with ideas for a treasure hunt through the newspaper. Decide on obstacles to overcome then have them find items in the Classified Ad section to overcome each obstacle. Obstacles could include quicksand, a dense forest and dragons guarding the treasure.
Have students work in groups. This is a great way to work on skills of indexing, categorizing, abbreviating and creative problem solving, as well as teamwork and oral language.
Tell the Tale
Write a poem, story or a limerick based on the treasure hunt. Look up words in the newspaper that describe the adventure.
