Figurative Language

Can you think of ways to describe hot weather using “figurative” language?

Examples would be:

  • It’s so hot you could fry an egg on the sidewalk.
  • It’s so hot, I’m melting!
  • It’s boiling hot outside.

Write down as many as you can think up and then ask an adult if they know any similar phrases that describe hot weather.

Compare today’s local weather to yesterday’s. Which was hotter?

Look at a local or national weather map. Where is it hottest?
