Haiku

A haiku is a poem that usually describes nature or seasonal themes. It should contain a total of 17 syllables in three lines with:
• Line 1 – 5 syllables
• Line 2 – 7 syllables
• Line 3 – 5 syllables

First brainstorm descriptive words that you might like to use. Write these down.

Compose your poem paying attention to the syllables. Neatly write out your finished poem or paste on colored paper. Decorate the background to match your theme. This could be a great gift.

Here’s an example:
winter blows so cold
warm my toes by the fire glow
windows white with frost
