Reading with the Family

Children who love to read will become better students and will build a better future.

We want to get kids to appreciate the joys of reading in order to achieve that outcome.

Talk to one of your family members about a book which they enjoyed as a child. Then interview them about the story:

  • Who were the main characters?
  • Did the book make them laugh?
  • Was there sadness in the story?
  • Why do they remember this particular book?
  • Is the setting different to today? Explain.
  • Did illustrations make a difference?
  • When was it written?
  • How did it end?
  • Was this book fiction or non-fiction?
  • Can you still get this book from the library?
  • And if you can, get it from the library, read and then compare how you feel about the story.
